General Information and Materials

size: 24 sts w x 99 st h; blank area in center may be lengthened or shorted, as desired; four threads (two aida rows) additional around all four edges between stitched area and nun's stitch edge

fabric: 28-count white or pale-colored evenweave is recommended, but 14-count aida will work, even for the pulled stitches; use a straight pin or a sharp needle to "open" the closely-packed threads for the in-between stitches for the eyelets, cushion stitches; cut fabric 9"x4"; as this is a small project, the edges may not need to be finished to prevent raveling

fiber: 6-strand embroidery floss (such as DMC 700, 909, 3818)
Pearl Cotton #12, white

chart: each square is 2 threads of evenweave or one box of aida

finishing: finish with nun's stitch 4 threads (two aida rows) from the stitching; fold back long edges and tack, fringing the top and bottom edges; hem; or finish in another way of your choice

Instructions

Band 1: four-sided stitch, pulled; pearl cotton, 1 strand

Band 2: Algerian eyelet; pearl cotton, 1 strand; substitute leviathan stitch if preferred

Band 3: same as Band 1

Band 4: work three Smyrna cross stitches for the three lobes of each shamrock; work stem in one long stitch; floss, 2 strands

Band 5: same as Band 2

Band 6: work three rice stitches for the three lobes of each shamrock; work stem in one long stitch; floss, 2 strands

Band 7: same as Band 1

Band 8: same as Band 2

Band 9: same as Band 1

Open area between the two segments of whitework may be used for initials or another motif, if desired.

Band 10: same as Band 1

Band 11: work row of Smyrna cross stitches; pearl cotton, 1 strand

Band 12: same as Band 1

Band 13: work long-arm cross stitch; floss, 2 strands; may substitute Montenegrin cross, Italian two-sided cross, Smyrna cross, closed herringbone, or any other "row" stitch of your choice

Band 14: same as Band 1

Band 15: same as Band 11

Band 16: same as Band 1
