Mrs. Gerken's Cookies

These are similar to other "short" cookies. I've had these called "Mexican Wedding Cookies," and probably you have, too. Here's a different take on these, which I first encountered when my college roommate's mother sent a batch. There's a surprise inside! The best kind!

1 c oleo, soft
2/3 c sugar
1 t vanilla
1 c nuts, chopped pretty finely (ground is ok, too, but not as interesting)
2 c flour
1 pk Hershey's chocolate kisses
powdered sugar

Mix all but chocolate and powdered sugar. Roll each kiss in dough, making sure you haven't left any places where the chocolate will leak out during baking.

Place on ungreased sheet. Bake at 375 for about 12 minutes, or until set but not brown. Watch! Roll in powedered sugar while hot.

Make balls of leftover dough and flatted a little. Eat any leftover chocolate.
